5 Top Tips to Help You Make Money on ebay
Don’t worry! This isn’t one those ‘become an ebay millionaire pieces’! Granted, the online auction house has been a great internet business opportunity to thousands of people out there and you still can make money on ebay. But these days we reckon you’re better off setting your sights at pulling in a few hundred quid a month, which still pays for a weekend away, a few meals out… you know, some of life’s little luxuries.
Anyway here are 5 top tips which we know work and will definitely help you make money from ebay. So whenever you’re putting something on to sell try and bear them in mind.
1) Check out the competition: You could be selling a luminous pink, one legged parrot and you can still guarantee at least one other person is flogging the exact same thing. The upside of ebay’s popularity is you’ve got millions of potential customers. The downside is your product might not be as unique as you first thought. But research the approach your competitors are taking, ‘borrow’ any innovative ideas and improve on them, and you’ll turn that negative into a positive.
2) Always use a picture: The difference between listing something with a picture and without a picture is a few pence. And people are far more likely to part with their cash if they can see what they’re buying, than not – it helps them visualize owning that product. Yet there are still loads of listings on ebay without pictures. Even if you don’t have a digital camera to upload the pic, go on google and find an image that fits what you’re flogging. Obviously make it clear it’s a likeness, but believe us it’s still a lot better than having nothing up there.
3) Make sure your description is attention grabbing: Are you flogging an item of clothing? If so talk about the luxury material, the detail, the stylish cut. Suggest occasions when the garment can be worn. Capture people’s imaginations and their money will be yours. So use bold words, big type and really promote what you’re selling. Remember whatever it is, it’s a must-have item for somebody!
4) Set your list price low: Obviously not if it’s a gold bar or a Ferrari. But if it’s your run-of-the mill, clearing out the attic stuff we recommend you start your price at £1. You’ll get more people bidding and more often than not the price will climb higher than if your starting price was a fiver or more.
5) Be honest: never forget people do give negative feedback. Your reputation on ebay is all people have to go on to know if you can be trusted or not. So protect your rating. If there’s a bit of damage to the product be upfront about it. And if someone’s happy with what they’ve bought off you make sure they give you some positive feedback. Even if you have to email them a few times before they do it, it’s worth the effort in the long run.
