A Tale Of Two Spanish Cities

Usually when we think of going to Spain, we think beach holiday, beer and Brits abroad as though some UK seaside town has been relocated to the Spanish mainland.

But Spain has a lot more to offer than all night clubbing in Ibiza or bar hopping in Benidorm. In fact, the country’s two main cities Madrid and Barcelona are more than testament to this.

Madrid, Spain’s capital, is a warm and welcoming cosmopolitan city and fuses its rich history stylishly with the 21st Century. When you visit you can check out the old town “Madrid de las Austrias”, take in the stunning Royal Palace, the Opera House and the modern Almudena Cathedral.

And with 73 museums you can’t doubt how central art and culture are to Madrid. Like the Reina Sofia National Arts Centre where you can see works by Picasso and Salvador Dali.

Madrid also has plenty of green spaces where you can watch the world go by… and select retail outlets offering the finest international brands, where you can shop until you drop. While the city’s pubs, bars, discos and flamenco clubs have a great vibe.

Barcelona, on the other hand, is an incredible Mediterranean city with an impressive cultural heritage and, like Madrid, a rich history.

And as for the local cuisine… forget chips and beans… we’re talking about organically grown produce, fresh fish, sausages, olive oil, home-made pastries and a selection of sparkling wines.

Plus in the unlikely event you’ve had your fill of music, theatre and dance you can chill out on the city’s waterfront or enjoy one of the beautiful urban beaches, marinas or seafront golf courses. If that’s not enough, then nearby you’ll discover the unspoilt beauty of the Catalan Pyrenees.

Of course when you check out either (or both) of these Mediterranean jewels, then you’ll need somewhere to stay. And whether it’s a B & B, hotel or self-catering apartment then cheaperthanhotels.co.uk can book you the perfect accommodation for less.

You can check out the great deals they’re offering in Madrid here and Barcelona here here. So if you’re planning a break in Spain we highly recommend cheaperthanhotels.co.uk. And if you haven’t thought about it before, then you should.
